Been a longtime fan of the UHK. I backed the original crowd funding project way way back when I had just started my career. And got a v2 shortly after it launched. I’m still a huge fan of these keyboards. Recently my day-to-day setup has changed a bit where I’m working from home and usually have one screen dedicated to my personal desktop where I’m often playing music or a video or something while I’ve got my work laptop going to the other screens.
I’m using a little uGreen KVM switch thing to be able to swap my keyboard between setups at the push of a button but it’s pretty slow to swap. 5 seconds or so in each direction. But over 90% of the time during a workday all I’m doing is pausing or playing on the personal computer or skipping a track or something. I think a little macro pad keyboard that has just a handful of buttons and maybe a volume knob or something might be a really good solution for me. I would love to be able to have just one configuration app though so I’d love to see UHK make a little macro pad keyboard that can integrate with existing the existing Agent app.
It obviously couldn’t come out quickly enough to solve my issues but could be a cool new product for the UHK team and might be able to be a gateway drug for those who could use the powerful macro functionality of Agent for their workflow but are reticent to spend multiple hundreds of dollars on a keyboard that looks a bit intimidating to normies.
Not what you’re asking for, but something to consider:
KDEConnect - easy to skip tracks & play/pause from a phone (i’m doing it from a lockscreen); it offers other useful functions you may be interested in;
depending on what player you’re using, they may offer native phone clients that allow controlling from phone as well, a’la Spotify
as I understand one of your displays is always hooked to your personal setup – in that case input-leap (FOSS Synergy fork) should be considered;
I’ll look into KDE connect. That might be a good solution. I had been using synergy and Input leap for the last few years. But when I switched to Linux last year they were causing me to regularly have my entirecomputer lockup at least once every couple days. I’ll come back and give them another try when the Wayland support is a little bit more mature.
I just installed it. And KDE connect is almost certainly the correct solution for me (it was even already installed on my Nobara distro). Phenomenal suggestion. Thanks!
@layr, this was such a good suggestion. I love this app. It also solves two other “problems” I hadn’t started trying to solve yet since I switched to Linux. It replaces a Windows app I used to use called “Unified Remote” to give me mouse and keyboard control for my phone when I’m using my TV in the other room. And it gives me a simple file transfer from phone to computer. I’m also sure I’ll use the “run command” function at some point. Thanks again.
