Video review of UHK80?

As in the title. Are there video reviews available about the UHK80? I’ve been scouring YouTube, and I’m not seeing any.

Really curious.

I hope not. We have been struggling with some really embarassing issues that I really do not want to be caught on tape for future generations .

We are working on it though!

This is not the most common experience. It is your experience, which you keep voicing on the forum to no end.

Despite the standing bugs, most use their UHK 80s daily for production work. I’ve been using mine for months. I can’t experience any of the mentioned major issues. We haven’t fixed these issues yet because we cannot reproduce them. Nevertheless, we’re working on them, and we’re transparent about them.

You’ve already requested a return of your UHK 80, which my colleague will process. Yet, you keep bashing our product and portraying your experience as absolute. If you care about us, you should not make bad PR like it’s your day job. If you don’t care about us, being on this forum doesn’t make sense.

László, it sounds like his problems are isolated. So my original request stands: any video review of the UHK80 would be welcome, thanks! When the time is appropriate, I’m not in a hurry.

He is certainly not alone with these problems.
It’s good to hear that there seem to be customers who don’t experience them. Would be nice to hear some positive feedback from actual customers who are using the UHK80 productively.

Meanwhile, I have to use my UHK60v2 while waiting for a new firmware and/or a fix for the firmware flashing issues.

@Lextar I’m using mine productively. In general my experience is positive.

I haven’t said that David’s problems are isolated, but they’re not nearly as prevalent as one might think based on his comments.

I don’t want to push reviews yet because even though the UHK 80 already works well for many, it’s not up to our standards yet, and pushing sales doesn’t feel right at this point.

Eventually, we’ll send a couple of UHK 80s to reviewers.

I’ve been using the UHK80 since the beginning of October, and it’s been very positive. I have to say, it’s relatively stable for me during normal use. Most of the problems I’ve encountered were because I’ve been intentionally trying to find issues.

I don’t wanna pile on to whatever hate this guy is trying to pour into this community, but today I decided to go back to one of my 60v2’s. I just for the life of me can’t get used to the thing. I’ll give it a try in a few more months once the firmware for it is a bit more mature. That gives me time to deck it out with new switches and caps and hopefully get that battery pack too.

On a positive note, I LOVE MY 60!! I think it’s because i didn’t get the batteries in my 80, but it felt so flimsy to me. I imagine the reason my 60’s feel better is just because they happen to be heavier, but man they just feel sturdy.

Thanks for sharing!

What made the UHK 80 feel flimsy to you? I’m asking because it’s built just as robustly as the UHK 60.

I never piled hate on, or poured it either. I just got to the same conclusion as many other posters in a much more compressed timeframe. And was vocal on that journey. You have now reached the same place I got to a few weeks ago. Once I got there I’ve not posted on it since.

I too have two UHK60s and love them. I did recently look at alternatives to the UHKs but the richness of the macros is unparalleled and that will keep me using UHKs.

I do hear you on the feel of the boards. There does seem to be more flex, marginal but there. I wonder is it related to the reduced height of the cases. And the wooden versus rubber rests, albeit I’ve not tried the rubber ones on a UHK60.

I think “flimsy” is the wrong word, but I do agree that (due to it’s heft) the UHK60 with a wooden palm rest feels psychologically more satisfying than the UHK80. It feels like you could crack open a coconut with the UHK60. Or if you strapped an axe handle to it, you could “hack” down a whole palm tree.

I’ve noticed that the rubber pads on the UHK80 started to warp/bubble up a little, so I put some thin, yet heavy-duty double sided tape between the plastic insert and the pad. It helped for a couple months, but I’ll probably eventually just fully glue the pads on. So I really hope the pads & inserts will be made available in the shop before long…

I may eventually attempt to carve some wooden inserts myself, or maybe just fill the hollowness under there with some dense modelling clay or whatever.

The warping/bubbling up of the palm rest shouldn’t happen, and it’s a sign of some early manufacturing issues we’ve experienced. Feel free to contact us, and we’ll replace your UHK 80.

Are the issues with UHK 80 mainly firmware related and will be fixed with updates?

Other than the rubber palm pads warping/bubbling, there aren’t any hardware issues that I’ve noticed. Some users experienced a bit of audible whine in the past, but that’s been fixed with some capacitor upgrades.

The firmware issues are mainly wireless/BLE connectivity related, and I’m sure they’ll be straightened out eventually. Using the UHK80 over USB is very stable.

Thank you. Do you know if it’s possible to power it from the left side when connected to the USB?

As someone who has both 60 and 80 versions, do you find yourself missing anything when you switch from 80 to 60?

You can power its left half with either the bridge cable, batteries, or USB, but the left half doesn’t send keystroke data over USB. It sends its data to the right half via bridge cable or wireless transfer, then the right half processes it and sends it to the host over USB/BLE/Dongle.

Things I like about the UHK60:
•it’s smaller (more portable)
•the palm rests are a little longer (big hands)

Things I like about the UHK80:
•the F-row keys when gaming
•OLED display (information density)
•being able to use the halves without the bridge cable if I need extra desk space when crafting, etc.
•the ability to switch to my phone/TV with the tap of a key (when it works😅)

So basically, I’d love a mid-sized UHK with an F-row, OLED, and wireless/BLE connections. Maybe a linear/columnar staggered layout, but I’ve never actually tried one of those, so :man_shrugging:t2:. The extra navigation keys of the UHK80 are actually nice to have if you don’t need to carry it around, but they’re not really necessary for me. It only takes a couple minutes to readjust when switching between the two, if you set up your keymaps similarly.

Thanks for sharing this bit of experience. It’s one of the things that has been on my mind lately. Still weighing the pros and cons of getting another 60 vs. going with the new 80 instead. Sturdy palm rests are another main concern for me, I tend to press down real hard on the wood, and also like the feel of it.
