first of all congratulations to the release of the UHK80. It looks like a great upgrade, although I personally was hoping for an upgraded and slimmer 60% keyboard instead, that’s more suited for taking with you when you’re traveling.
That being said, could anyone explain to me what was the reasoning behind developing a 80% keyboard? The phrase “never leave the home row” is what initially sold me on the UHK V1 and I love it. I was a bit surprised to see the new keyboard has dedicated arrow keys, that are farther away and force you to leave the home row.
Our “never leave the home row” mantra still stands, as the UHK 60 shortcuts are accessible on the UHK 80. However, many people asked for an 80% keyboard.
We’ll eventually have a keyboard portfolio with various layouts, and we’ll update every model to our latest core tech.
thanks for the reply. That’s basically what I wanted to know. I was not sure if you and the team thought a 80% keyboard would be better or there was demand from the community.
The UHK is my first 60% keyboard and that you don’t ever have to move your hands is the best thing that ever happened to ergonomics on my desk. Love the product! That’s why I was a tiny bit disappointed to see a bigger keyboard.
