So the batteries are optional when purchasing a unit? Does it function without a battery? I’m assuming when wired?

Yes, spiral cable between the halves, and the right half connected via USB. Very much like the (always wired) UHK60.

Same style cable as UHK60? Subject to the interference?

It’s not the cable style but the protocol. Unlike the UHK 60, which uses I2C, the UHK 80 uses UART across the spiral cable, which is far more robust regarding interference.
