Right modules acting up - random mouse inputs

Has anyone experienced the right modules suddenly generating random mouse inputs? This started with my trackball module. As I type, text is suddenly highlighted, deleted, menus opened and so on. It makes the keyboard pretty much unusable.

I swapped the trackball out for my trackpoint module. The buttons on the trackpoint module don’t work. While I see fewer random mouse inputs, they still happen. I have a touchpad module as well but don’t want to attach it in case something is frying modules.

Any experience with this or suggestions on how to isolate the problem?

That’s strange.

Generally, it’s good to start with Fixing misbehaving keys - Ultimate Hacking Keyboard . A lot of “strange” issues turn out to be hardware based, such as insufficient power source.

Some random thoughts: could also be a runaway macro generating things like (ctrl/shift) arrows, and similar and not mouse events? (If macro text pointer gets corrupted, then it can easily produce undefined behavior, although I haven’t seen such a bug in ages.)

I don’t use macros so I don’t think it’s that. Maybe a bad usb cable, though I haven’t touched it since first setting up the keyboard.

If I detach the module, all problems go away. I tried cleaning the contacts with isopropyl alcohol. At first it seemed to help but then the module reverted to the same bad behavior.

Maybe the module is losing connection? Have you tried this?

If that doesn’t help, I’d look for interference from something in your environment (phone, etc.), or power issues. Try completely disabling all backlighting on your UHK for a while and/or temporarily using an externally powered hub to troubleshoot power issues.
