Per key led setting and the key map page

Am I being a duffer and missing some obvious button in the UI somewhere?

The per key backlighting setting prevents me from doing anything to the key map other than setting the colours.

So to change some key behaviour I am having to:
go to the led settings,
change it to functional backlighting,
open the keymap,
make key changes,
Go back to led settings,
switch back to per key backlighting.

If you have selected a color (i.e., you see a checkmark in the color palette), then just click that color (the checkmark dissapears).

Then you should be able to normally change key actions.
