I recently upgraded my UHK v2 firmware from v10 (or an older version) to the current v12. On two separate UHK v2 units, I’ve noticed the same issue: the trackpoint module now scrolls extremely slowly.
Does anyone know which setting I should adjust to improve the scrolling behavior? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Thank you for the pointers! I’ll keep an eye on this issue while waiting for a fix.
RE: firmware version - I upgraded to v12.3.3 from v10.5.0. In addition to the slow scrolling issue, I also noticed that the trackpoint is less responsive compared to the older firmware.
Now that I’m on v12.3.3, it seems I can no longer flash v10.5.0 using the tar file from its release page. However, I was able to flash v12.2.0 instead, which I picked at random. I’ll be testing it over the next few days.
You might be able to go back to an older firmware if you use an older version of Agent as well. If you do go back to an earlier Agent, you might need to temporarily prevent it from connecting to the internet, and disable auto-check for updates. (some earlier versions of Agent were auto-updating without notice if an update was available)
Thanks again! Yes, I still have my old configuration with firmware version v10.5.0. It’s from a pair of UHK V2 keyboards that I keep in my office. Rolling back to firmware v10.5.0 required some trial and error, but here’s the process I followed:
Using the latest UHK Agent (5.1.0-win), I first flashed firmware v10.5.0. (During this step, I encountered a persistent error message related to applying firmware to the trackpoint. However, this did not cause any issues later. At this stage, the entire keyboard became unresponsive, except for the trackpoint, which could move the mouse but not click on anything.)
Using another keyboard and mouse, I uninstalled UHK Agent 5.1.0-win.
I then installed UHK Agent 3.3.0-win.
I reset the UHK configuration.
Finally, I imported my previous configuration.
Note:
At least with UHK Agent 3.3.0, the first step (flashing v10.5.0) is necessary. If the keyboard is running firmware v12.3.x, the older agent will not recognize it at all.
A Separate Question:
Regarding my original inquiry—when using older firmware (v10.5.0), was it the case that the “Mouse Scroll Speed” setting controlled both the speed of key-invoked scrolling events and the scrolling triggered through the trackpoint module? In the past, things seemed simpler.
Finally, I used the following macro to enable scrolling with the trackpoint module by holding it down. This setup also allows performing a middle mouse click by pressing the right button on the trackpoint module. I should have made this clear in the beginning.
$holdLayer mod
$ifNotPlaytime 150 tapKey mouseBtnMiddle
Moving forward, I guess I’ll stay with v10.5.0 for firmware, and Agent version 3.3.0.
Glad you got it back to where you want it! It can get a bit tricky going back that far with all the changes since then.
Sorry, I forgot about the trackpoint firmware being upgraded separately. I only have the touchpad module, and instead of having its own firmware, it’s implemented by the right half’s.
As for your mouse scroll speed question; it’s been a long time, and I really don’t remember.
