I have been using the UHK 60 for a while and I absolutely loved it. I saw the UHK 80 with wireless support and I bit the bullet instantly, as I needed a way to connect a single keyboard via USB to my main machine, as well as via BLE or Dongle to my laptop.
So, let’s start with the USB connection: It seems to work, so far so good.
Now, I wanted to connect the Dongle to my laptop, I went and see the documentation, that does not state you need to be connected via USB to even start pairing, and once I do that, it starts running into an infinite loop of failures, never allowing me to do anything in terms of pairing codes etc…
I do BLE and it pairs on the laptop, I then connect the USB to my main machine and I see no way of connecting back to BLE unless I disconnect the cable? Honestly, I have no clue on how to fix these issues, I was told I could easily and seamlessly turn from USB to Dongle with a macro etc…
Guess I’m going back to double keyboard setup because this one ain’t working yet.
Every keyboard I own with a specialized dongle connects seamlessly and immediately
I may have been able to solve it by connecting the dongle and the two usb parts (left, right) to my other laptop (Mac, the other machines are windows) and upgrade the firmware for the dongle in there. Now I am able to swap machines easily with the macro. Hopefully it doesn’t give me any more headaches for a while.
With the issues I’ve faced, first impressions were not that great, however, the build quality and feel of the keyboard is insanely good as expected.
It’s not quite the same situation, but I’d like to share my (wired) computer-switching solution. I connect to two desktops and a laptop (through a dock), so it’s easy for all of them to be wired, and then I avoid any dongles or bluetooth connection issues.
I use a KVM switch with a wired remote. The remote connects to the KVM with a USB plug, which means it’s easy to replace it with a custom remote. I made my own remote, with Cherry MX switches as selector buttons, and mounted it to the keyboard (UHK60) above the right-hand module mount. I now have two cables running from the keyboard to the desktops, so I keep them together with a mesh tube thingy.
I put mine away today. Back on my 60. Even without some of my peeves there is something highly functional about the 60 that i’ve grown to love over the years. I’ll still buy the uhk100 if that ever is a thing, and probably also proceed to not use it for my 60
It did give me a chance to reevaluate just why I love the 60 so much, so i went out and finally ordered some custom keycaps for it today to apologize for not being faithful.
Actually it’s four-way, and not really a KVM, it’s USB only. The brand is Aimos. I switch video separately, just using my monitor buttons, which is a bit annoying, but it means a cheap USB switch works fine for everything else.
Thanks for the pointer. My monitor does not seem to support the required DDC commands, so I don’t think this will work for me. I would replace the monitor to get that working, but product detail pages usually don’t have much detail about DDC support.
I assume you have a really old screen then, it should be difficult to find one that doesn’t support DDC/IC nowadays. You can always ask some community (reddit will do) whether your new chosen model supports 'em. Worst case you can send the monitor back. Extra hassle, but whaddayagonnado.
