I’m working on a new KAM profile set for the UHK80. I’m hoping they’ll let me add a few extra keys so I can make a set that’ll work for both the UHK60 and UHK80. I’m gonna wait until after the UHK80’s colored cases ship before I order the caps though. Idk what shade of yellow will be the closest to the case color.
I’m going for something similar to my first YUZU caps, but I’m trying for a floating legend look this time. And now that I’m posting this, I realize I should swap the direction of the shadow on the right half, so it will look better when the board is in tenting mode.
Here’s a very early rough draft…

I also hope the tariff situation doesn’t make em cost an arm and a leg.
@pcooke9 That looks fantastic! That’s great that you’re doing a dual UHK60 and 80 set!
Great idea about swapping shadow directions for tenting.
Looking forward to seeing them after you’ve decided on the final design, and then after they get delivered!
Thanks!
Yours looks like it belongs on an episode of “Is it Cake?”.
I kinda wanna take a bite out of it.
@pcooke9 Thank you! We designed it to be like candy!
So that’s awesome that you want to take a bite out of it!
This UHK60 has a white case and wooden palm rests, so we made it more bright & candy.
Another UHK60 which has a blue case got a darker purple and cyan (Custom YUZU keycaps for UHK60) sort of sort of Dracula theme ish, https://draculatheme.com/).
I spend so much time using these keyboards & IDEs and terminals that I started to make custom themes for my terminals and IDEs (and the TUI project, R3BL, that I’ve been building for years) and the colors & fonts & aesthetics are all blending That’s why the fonts on my keycaps are all “8-bit” esque retro fonts.
Looking forward to seeing your keycap designs finalized!
I like your style man.
@pcooke9 Thank you!
I just want doubleshot shine throughs like the stock keycaps and i’ll be in. I don’t even need anything fancy, just boring white keys instead to mix it up.
UHK has actual useful backlighting that i quite enjoy when going into all the different modes, it sucks to have to lose that so i have a cooler looking keyboard.
The YUZU keycaps are not doubleshot. Ducky makes nice keycaps, I’ve really enjoyed them in the past (before the YUZU sets). And you can get good keycaps on https://novelkeys.com/.
When you mentioned useful backlight, I just realized that I never look down at my keyboard, while I am using it, so the functional backlighting is not something I’ve ever even used.
I would rather have the opposite, some kind of lightshow effects to make the keyboard look even cooler than it does. The key caps for me are entertainment . The key switches matter most to me for tactility and productivity.
To each their own!
I usually find it more useful when i’ve added new macros to the keyboard in different layers because they show up as purple to differentiate other colors. I’m a touch typist, but not for the amount of fiddling I do with different functionality on this thing.
I wonder how it would look like if the base key were just transparent, and by printing a non-transparent ink onto it, you can shape exactly where it shines through. I am assuming the print-on ink that Yuzu uses is thick enough to block the light.
That would be very cool! Having transparent base layer, and opaque dye! The Yuzu keycaps are thick enough to block any light shining through, but it does glow when ambient light levels are low.
IIrc, the YUZU Discord has some discussions explaining that dye-sub doesn’t work very well with ABS plastic, and it’s really only suitable for PBT. Unfortunately, I don’t believe transparent PBT exists.
YUZU’s other service, FK Custom, has translucent ABS that’s coated with black or white PU. They remove the coating via laser to make the shine-through legends.
They have UHK60/80 templates for XDA profile in white shine-through, but it doesn’t look like they have it in any other profiles ATM.
Hopefully they can make more colors available in the future, but AFAIK, that’s pretty much all that’s out there.
